Specific Gravity (SG)
Specific Gravity (SG) is the density of a solution expressed as grams per milliliter. SG is used to estimate the sugar and alcohol content of wort and beer. Brewers often drop the decimal place, for example a SG of 1.048 will become 1048 (spoken as ten forty eight). Pure water has a SG of 1.000.
