Just when it looked like Hoegaarden was ready to say goodbye to its beer traditions in light of the move of the typical Belgian witbier, a new alternative saw the light of day.

Jan and Mieke set up a boutique brewery in their pub called Nieuwhuys. And that is where they came up with Alpaide, a dark ale of 9 that proved to be very popular. Though the white beer has meanwhile moved back to its home ground in Hoegaarden, the Alpaide can rightly hold its own next to this giant. Despite their success, these brewers didn"t sit around doing nothing. They created a second beer in the mean time, called Rosdel, which is a blond ale.
