Alpha Acid Units
Alpha Acid Units (AAU's) are a measurement of the amount of alpha acids added to a beer. Equals to the amount of hops, in ounces, multiplied by the percentage of alpha acids in the hops. Unless utilisation is taken into account AAU's are a very rough measurement of bitterness and usually only used in homebrewing. Alpha Acid Units are also sometimes referred to as Homebrew Bittering Units or HBU's
