Evarist Clerinx stopped his medicine studies in his last but one year and started to work as a brewer. In Kerkom, on the road Sint-Truiden-Hannuit-Namen, he bought an old café La Rennaissance and rebuilded it into the brewery.
In 1913, 23.000 kilograms of malt were supplied. In the beginning, beer was only delivered in barrels. The distribution was small-scaled: the distance that one hourse could bridge in one twenty-four hours.
Beside the cafés, also the affluent citizens, who always had some beer in stock, bought Evarists beer. ‘The joy must come out of the cellar’ is with no doubt a proverb that finds his origin here. ‘The giant’ of Evarist was very popular. It was a beer of high fermentation that was best compared with the Jack-op.
Since 1999 Marc Limet took over the stirring stick, literally and figurative, of Jean Clerinx.
During the next years, he invested in installations to improve the beer.
There came new tanks to raise the quality of the beer. The response of the public and the lovers of beer was not long in coming.
In 2000 the launching of two new seasonal beers, the ‘Bloesem Bink’ and the ‘Winterkoninkske’ provided an extra enrichment.
