Brouwerij Haacht

It is a well-known fact that beer has been brewed in Haacht and the surrounding area for at least four centuries. Thanks to its strategic location on the Hansbrug over the river Dyle, the brewery-inn, the Paradijsvogel (bird of paradise) was already serving a generous drop of beer to passers-by at the end of the 16th century. The "Paradijsvogel" passed through the hands of several owners in the 16th century. By 1777, it was no more.

Since the early nineties, Haacht Brewery was investing heavily in new production technology. After the upgrading of the fermentation, lagering and filtration units in 1990 and the updating of the brew house in 1994, the implementation of the new bottling hall was the most important industrial investment in the period after the Second World War.
There were two new filling lines installed: the fist one for beer the other one for water. Both lines fulfill the strictest demands concerning hygiene and safety and were built according to the most recent technological standards.
In 2006, new warm chambers were built, exclusively for the refermentation of the Tongerlo abbey bottled beer.
The building of 500m² consists of four compartments, each able to hold one hundred pallets, or a total of 600.000 bottles. (Find out more about the refermentation in bottles: www.tongerlo.be)
This period is also less typical for take-overs, only the Eupener Brauerei (East Cantons) and "Bierbrouwerij De Leeuw" from Valkenburg (the South-Netherlands) were taken over in 1998 and 2002.
In 1995, Haacht Brewery also bought a wine castle in the Saint-Emilion region (France) where it produced 2 exceptional wines: Château La Grande Barde (Montagne St.Emilion) and Château Haut Saint Georges (St.Georges St.Emilion).
