This variety of lager took the world by storm in 1842 when the first golden example was released. Up until then, beer had always been some shade of brown. Today, Pilsener is still the gold standard for a crisp lager with a light malt flavour balanced by aromatic hops. Many Pils have a dry, hoppy finish.
