Pours a deep cola brown with a fading fizzy beige head and some lace. The aroma has notes of anise and pepper, plum, toasty pumpernickel bread, herbal, dusty yeast esters, a classic Belgian sour/funk woody nose. Actually once I got used to it, it was quite nice!
The taste profile is a bit more simple with anise and peppery textures over a layer of sweet chocolate and nutty malts. These are supported by lactic twang and a herbal wildflower quality. The finish is slightly dry and woody with some smoke out and about.
The mouth feel is lively but reserved, thin to medium-bodied and the alcohol is very well hidden.
