Extremely black beer with little light penetration and a small but present mocha colored head. The head receded fairly quickly but left a good cap. There was minimal spotty lacing. The aroma is a pleasant tour de force for imperial stouts. There is molasses, liquorice, espresso, chocolate, dark roasty malts, dark fruits, with a touch of alcohol. The taste follows suit with a fine delivery on the promises the aroma made. The flavor is very rich and a touch sweet with clear notes of roasted malts, dark fruits (fig, dates, raisins), liquorice, and coffee. There is a fine warming alcohol sensation present in the aftertaste which is shared with hops. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and a bit sticky with a medium-body. Carbonation is quite low - appropriate for the style. Excellent example of the style and the talent at Mikkeller.
