The month of May, 1928 will for ever remain a landmark in Belgiums beer history. It was then that the Limburg brewery of Alken launched its Cristal lager. At the time many Belgian breweries were not yet able to produce low-fermentation beers and Cristal lager was hailed as a revolutionary new development. Consumers immediately took to Cristal. Its secret? A perfect combination of very soft spring water and carefully selected raw materials. The Alken brewery strongly promoted pure lager and in this way helped to develop the production of Belgian lager beers. The brand became Limburgs major lager, but it is also much appreciated far beyond the Limburg borders. In 1989 the beer was awarded the Gold Medal (Monde Selection) for quality in London. In 2003 Cristal will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
A contemporary lager, but still brewed according to the original recipe.
A clear blonde lager with a characteristic flavour and a refreshingly bitter aftertaste.
